No Christmas hangover for the Phoenix

It was goals a plenty for Worplesdon Phoenix on Saturday as all three of the sides in action secured good wins.

Kicking the New Year off at the Memorial Ground the 1st team smashed 11 past Royal Holloway Old Boys. Chambers led the ways with five goals with the other six being spread round between Tegg, McCabe, Wardle, Moore, Pernas and Berry. The wins moves the side up to 2nd but with only three points separating the seven teams below them they will look to push on next week when they entertain Yateley.

Missing five players the Reserves travelled to Holloway College playing fields in search of a win to close the gap on leaders Merrow. After struggling to break the deadlock Rodgers finally slotted home and Thomas (pictured) added a second before half time. B Team striker McMillian then dominated proceedings with a second half hattrick. First heading home from what must have been the 15th corner of the match, second was a more spectacular effort from 25 yards before the slotting home his 3rd and the Ressies 5th after good work from fellow veteran Thomas.

Looking to bounce back after being dumped out of the County Cup at the hands of Holmbury before Christmas the A's gained some revenge wit a 4v2 win this time in the League Cup at Mayford.
