Briggers grab deserved point against play off fancied Knaresborough Town

Sixteen-year-old Matty Pinder scored with the last kick of the game as ten-man Worsbrough staged more late heroics.

In a dramatic finale, a week on from Worsbrough’s dramatic win at Yorkshire Amateur, Tom Woolard had appeared to have won it for Knaresborough.

Worsbrough led for a considerable amount of time as Brad Kerr (28) was on the scoresheet again for Bridge with his first half goal. In truth the Briggers could and maybe should have been further ahead at half-time after good chances from Brad Mellor (12) and a searing shot from Josh Wright that hit the crossbar (20).

Half time: Knaresborough Town 0 Worsbrough Bridge AFC 1

Knaresborough really threw the kitchen sink as the second half wore on and luck was going against them, especially when Gary Collier’s header hit the post. In fairness Worsbrough should have doubled the lead when Brad Kerr, already high on confidence after scoring 2 goals in 2 games, rounded the stranded Knaresborough keeper but somehow missed an open goal (71).

In fairness despite the chances created by the away side they managed to turn second half possession into a leveller when a bullet header from captain Will Lenehan (80) made it 1-1 and the game was now up for grabs for both sides.

With the match evenly posed Non League legend Mark ‘Willy’ Wilson was then shown a straight red card for a challenge on Callum Rodgers and the Briggers that suffered a further blow when Woolard sneaked a shot home, in the 91st minute.

Worsbrough to their credit threw everything at the home team and proved they cannot be written off this season as 16 year old Matty Pinder rose to head his side level in the dying seconds.
