Garside and Shirt earn Briggers a win at high flying Winterton Rangers

Goals from skipper Lee Garside and Dean Shirt earned Worsbrough Bridge a well earned win against high flying Winterton Rangers in interim manager Josh Wright's first game in charge.

Wright drafted in 3 products of the U19's system for Saturday's match alongside a new goalkeeper and centre-half in what was a hectic first 24 hours in charge of the first team.

Winterton had chances in the first half hitting the cross bar on 2 occasions, but a well organised and disciplined Briggers side kept their shape and hit on the counter, with Garside and Wiltshire causing the home team visitors problems.

Worsbrough were helped by the first half sending off of former Selby Town goalkeeper Robert Zand for deliberate handball when the hardworking Wiltshire chased a long ball in the first half.

Bridge were outstanding. They stuck to Wright’s game-plan and frustrated high-flying Winterton.

Zand’s red card for handling the ball outside his area helped massively, but they still needed to defend well.

On the counter attack, with Mitchell Wilshire leading the charge, Bridge were excellent.
Former Stocksbridge forward Garside broke the deadlock late on with a rocket.

Matthew Bradley did seemingly deny Bridge their win with the equaliser for Winterton, but on this occasion the hard work and discipline paid off for the Worsbrough Bridge side.

Shirt, the son of now former manager Ian, sparked scenes of jubilation with a fine strike from 20 yards.

Full time: Winterton Ranger 1 Worsbrough Bridge 2
Attendance: 75

Referee: Matthew Bacon
