Worsbrough Bridge V Euroglaze

Worsbrough Vs Euroglaze- Pre-Season friendly 16/07/14
By Bradley Guest

Mark Joyce’s Worsbrough reserve side started their pre-season with a 4-3 win against Euroglaze with goals from Callum Cheatham, Declan Lycett, Sam Keen and Brad Kerr.

It took all of 25 seconds for Worsbrough to take the lead, with Brad Kerr played down the right, squaring it across the goal for Callum Cheatham to tap it in.
It was an almost identical goal just two minutes later with Brad Kerr again running down the right and cutting it across this time for Declan Lycett who missed at the first attempt with a fancy flick blocked on the line by the defender, but he finished it at the second attempt.

After five minutes, it was almost 3-0 when Euroglaze’s Keeper’s bad touch gave Kerr a chance to snatch the ball. He failed to convert the open net but was being pulled back by the goalkeeper.

Euroglaze had their first shot after nine minutes, from outside the box, but failed to test goalkeeper Jon Davies.

Jack Jones had a great shot from about 20 yards but it was well saved by the opposition goalkeeper and shortly after Brad Kerr was through on goal but was stopped by an excellent tackle by the defender.

Euroglaze scored with their first shot on target from a free kick that crept under the wall leaving Davies no chance.

Half Time: 2-1 to Worsbrough

Six minutes after the interval Sam Keen restored Worsbrough’s two goal lead with a volley from a corner. However, half way through the second half, the lead was again reduced to one after the Euroglaze striker tucked away a shot from inside the box.

Eventually, Brad Kerr wrapped up the game with a deserved goal with just five minutes remaining from an inch perfect through ball by Alex Knight to seal the victory. There was still time for a brief scare though as Mitch Cowlishaw put into his own net with two minutes left to set up a frantic end to the game but Worsbrough held on for the victory in their first pre-season game.

Full Time: 4-3 to Worsbrough

After the game manager Mark Joyce said “It was a good workout against an unknown team. We played some very nice football at times and looked sharp and fit. Although there is still along way to go to being full strength, with an average age of 18, the team stood up to some aggressive tackling and continued to play football. Next up is Kingstone, who gained promotion last season.”

MOTM: Brad Kerr- set up two goals and deserved the goal he got. Made some good runs down the wing and also behind the defence. Probably should have scored more than one goal.
