Worsbrough shatter The Glass

Worsbrough got back to winning ways with a much needed victory against Glasshoughton Welfare.

Both sides started brightly and Welfare were unfortunate not to score in the first seconds when a shot was blocked by keeper Christian Bark and a defender. In what was a lively opener Worsbrough grabbed the initiative after 6 minutes when a corner from the left hand side was headed home by Nick Galloway.

In wet and windy conditions both sides continued to create chances and Welfare came close after 16 minutes when putting a chance from a corner just wide. However at the other end Connor Rollinson headed just wide and had a further chance cleared of the line after a mix up between the Welfare keeper and his defenders.

Just before the break Scott Whittington should have had a second for the hosts but headed wide with only the keeper to beat.

Just after the restart a cross to the far side of the Worsborough goal was just missed by the visitors and home side made their opponents pay on 54 minutes when, after a goalmouth scramble Jack Portman prodded the ball home to give the home side some breathing space.

However after 70 minutes all thoughts of a comfortable victory were dashed as Welfare pulled a goal back. An innocent looking shot from the left that was going wide on seventy minutes struck the unfortunate head of Andrew Dawson and looped over the keeper into the net.

As the game entered the last few minutes it was back to the walls as Worsbrough were reduced to 10 men with Portman being sent off for a 2nd booking. With just seconds remaining it was hearts in the mouth stuff as Welfare with virtually the last kick of the game struck a shot against the foot of the post for welfare which was scrambled away.
