Battle of the dynamos

After the fighting draw last week when our dynamos fought back three times from being behind it was cup time again against wick dynamos at the Arun sports centre scene of one of our best summer tournament performances. With joey and Riley b missing t

It was clear from the outset that our kids were playing to win as they started quickly with some good passing creating the first of many chances created in the first half. With the wind behind them we had wick dynamos pushed back and started to get on top in midfield with Harry, JJ and Lewis all battling away and after a number of near misses Lewis opened the scoring to give us a deserved lead.

Wick looked threatening down their left side but a series of strong tackles from Ava and Riley and some good saves from Leo made sure they didn’t hit back. In fact we were to go further in front when Thalon whipped over a corner that their keeper couldn’t handle and it ended up in the back of the net. Spurred on by this there were more chances with Arthur and Ollie both looking really dangerous and it looked like a matter of time before we scored again. Sure enough the third goal did come and it was Ollie who got a deserved goal with an assured finish into the top corner.

Half time came and wick now had the wind behind them as they tried to mount a comeback. We were making tackles and closing down all over the pitch and looking really threatening on the break as we had a couple of great chances to kill the game off but a combination of their goalkeeper and bad luck keeping the ball out with Arthur left wondering what he had to do to score.

Wick kept plugging away and Leo was kept busy making a couple of great saves and some interesting goal kicks (my heart rate has just returned to normal level). Eventually they did pull one back and we were starting to look a little tired from all the effort we had put in. There were a couple more crazy goalmouth scrambles where we were so close to scoring as time was running down but with only a few minutes left on the clock wick pulled another one back to make for nervous viewing.

The character the group showed last week came to the fore again as Arthur finally got the goal that his performance deserved proving the value of perseverance. With the extra goal cushion now the guys were able to see the game out without any dramas to secure a hard fought and well deserved victory.

Once again great support from the sidelines as the parents were doing there best to stay behind the respect line whilst cheering our kids home to victory. I would like to thank Claire and Chris for giving our kids the platform to perform like they did today and I hope that the last two weeks performances can be maintained as it has been a joy to watch.

Player ratings:

Leo:

Superb performance from our stand in goalkeeper who stood tall and made some great saves at vital times in the game.

Ava:

Tackled everything that moved in a defensive masterclass and launched plenty of her rocket throw ins. Man of the match performance.

Riley:

Showed great energy and determination throughout and tackled hard. Positioned himself well to make important interceptions and break up play. Worked so hard for the team.

Lewis:

The best game I have seen Lewis play got himself a goal nearly scored from the half way line and made loads of tackles and worked really hard for the team.

Harry:

Works so hard for the team made lots of tackles and showed great energy to get box to box. Real team player.

JJ:

Made some great passes and trying to play with his head up all the time. More defensive role in second half and put in a strong shift with some late bursts forward.

Thalon:

Hard working and energetic in midfield winning plenty of duels. Nearly got himself a goal and showed great desire to get up and down working hard for the team.

Ollie:

Best performance I have seen from Ollie a real handful from start to finish. Got himself a goal showed great awareness playing up front and very strong on the ball throughout. Could have had a hat trick on another day and their defence will be having nightmares about him.

Arthur:

Arthur is a natural forward and takes up some very clever positions either in space or on the shoulder of the last defender. Has an amazing turn of pace and the only mystery today is how only ended with one goal. Another excellent performance.

Very enjoyable game today and an outstanding team performance full of hard work, determination and skill. You know how it goes say We are dynamos, say we are dynamos!!!!!!!!
