From the start they showed that determination spending the first 15 minutes camped in the Coaley box and should of took the lead but for some rugged defending from the Coaley back 4. The deadlock was broken however when a great through ball from the wing allowed Mike Whittaker to volley home from just inside the box giving the keeper no chance. Things were looking good for Wotton with wotton legend Jon Stokes and the ox like Beric Whetton working well upfront with the ever impressive Owain Clement and Ben Pring controlling things from the start in midfield. The second half started like the first but this time it was Coaley who had long spells of attacking pressure but the defensive work from Sean Dix, Rich Weston, Joey Tomlin and Whittaker proved too strong and kept any chances to long range efforts from outside the box. This made life a little easier for young goalkeeper Will Carr who ensured the Wotton Goal was undisturbed and kept that all important clean sheet. With 20 minutes to go The inspirational Man manager Liam Comer made the decision to introduce 2 new faces bringing on Calvin Buckley and Pieter Cox into the attack and both caused problems from the first attack. It was from a free kick near the touch line that Wotton pounced again with a lovely ball across the defensive line from Buckley which sat perfectly for a text book diving header from Whetton who powered the ball home from 10 yards and put the game and the points firmly in Wotton’s hands.
Wotton will be hoping to take this impressive display into next weeks tie at home to league high flyers Brockworth.
Man of the Match: Rich Weston.... superb.
