To celebrate our 25th birthday and our brand new pitch, WUEHC is hosting a weekend of hockey on the Whitsun bank holiday weekend, May 24 & 25.

Saturday’s schedule sees mixed U9s and boys’ and girls’ U12 games in the morning, followed by an afternoon of mixed 6/7-a-side games, ages 13 and upwards. These games are aimed at fun hockey and sides should be evenly split between men and women of all abilities. We expect most players to come from Wotton, but other clubs, groups of friends or work colleagues can form a team and come and enjoy the afternoon. We will put Wotton players into Barbarians teams as we do on club day so everyone can get involved. On the form attached just indicate if you are part of a team, or just put your name in the hat.
Saturday finishes with an Allstars game involving many of the international and National League players who have come through the club or from Katherine Lady Berkeley’s School, plus some invited local stars. Stay and watch by Gloucestershire’s most scenic pitch while there is a bar (beer, wine, cider and soft drinks) right next door to it (bring ID please). We would really like the parents of juniors to give their children a chance to watch what will be top quality hockey and to stay and be part of the club. Invite your friends and others who enjoy sport, or old hockey mates from outside Wotton. There will be a band and party till late. There is free camping on site on Saturday night for those who want to make the most of it.
The day will be celebrated by the community with Friends of KLB running stalls, a bouncy castle and other attractions. Other sports clubs may join the day. We will have a second-hand hockey kit stall. There will be bacon rolls, a BBQ, tea and cakes, and food will be available in the evening during the Allstars game and at the party. Please don’t bring a picnic: support the club and charities which help the community.
On Sunday a boys’ U15s (Year 10) tournament will run in the morning, our ladies & Vixens play old friends around lunch time and the weekend closes with a men’s 7-a-side (i.e. with goalies if you want) tournament open to teams from other clubs. These we suspect will be a bit more competitive, but in a festival spirit. Get a group of mates from University, or work colleagues and bring a team. The bar and BBQ will be there again.
Please let us know whether you want to participate by filling in the form asap. We need people to take part and we need people to volunteer. We want everyone to be able to come, any money that we do make will go to the club and the WCSF that has provided the pitch that has been our focus this year
