'As the first real competitive friendly thus far, I have got to be pleased with our performance overall - especially when considering we were without Skipper Challen, Carus, Self, Thompson and last seasons top scorer Paul Cook.
In truth, first half we did not defend from the front to anywhere near the level we would do normally, which meant Kings Lynn had lots of good possession and were able to move the ball easily, which they did well. Saying that, in our final third, there wasn't too many opportunities for them and unusually we conceded from a corner.
Despite that, Claudio Langlois (who hopped off a plane at 9 o clock on Friday night), should have opened the scoring when going 1v1 with their 'leeper only to pull his shot wide and two mins before half time when the score was 1-1, a wide delivery from Josh Turner was expertly flicked toward the corner of the net by Matt Halliday and was bouncing in when it actually hit one of our other attackers who diverted it wide!
Second half was a much better performance from us defensively, we won the ball back quicker, earlier and had more of the possession. Flip side is that we lacked a cutting edge in the second half, being forced to play Hinton and Durrant out of position up front which made it hard, despite their great work rate.
All in all a good first test for the squad and as we now turn our pre season focus toward the attacking side of our game, we hope to be turning in rounded performances ready for the start of the season in a months time'.
