After a narrow opening day defeat away at Tilbury, Wroxham begin their home Ryman League campaign against Harlow Town on Tuesday evening.
The Hawks lost out in the play-offs having finished league runners-up last season and will be looking to go one better this season and gain automatic promotion.
The club allegedly boast one of the biggest budgets in Division One. With this they have been able to attract some players that even higher level clubs would be envious of. One such player signed this summer is Ibrahima Sonko. The former Senegal international represented his country in the 2008 Africa Cup Of Nations. He has played for Reading, Stoke City and Ipswich and had loan spells at Hull and Portsmouth. Having recently returned from a three year spell at Turkish side Akhisar Belediyespor he signed on for Harlow.
Harlow play their home games on a 3G surface and began their season with a 2-0 home win against Cheshunt. Last year’s prolific goalscorer Alex Read and Junior Dadson were their goalscorers. In goal on Saturday was the son of former Tottenham player Stefan Freund, Niklas.
Last Season we met Harlow three times including in the FA Trophy. A 1-1 draw at Trafford Park last February being the best result from those for Wroxham.
Wroxham Manager Stu Larter will be hoping for a reaction to the opening day narrow defeat which saw competitive Yachtsmen debuts for Michael Somerfield, Matty Waters and Steve Holder. Unused substitutes on Saturday Mac Gee, Sam Grady and Jamie Forshaw will all be hoping to get into the action. Striker Nathan Stone is absent through work, however it is hoped that there will be a couple of new signings available. Kick off at Trafford Park is 7.45pm.
