Season 2011-12

BRIGGS’ BARMY ARMY

Hello All it has been some time since we have had a news letter and many things have happened within the club that have been very positive and unfortunately at times very frustrating.

Wyke Open Age
The 1st team have been competing well in the 2nd Division of the Pennine League; they were unlucky not to reach the Final of the Bradford Cup going down to Bank Top Harriers by 14 points to 4 in the Semi-Final.
The team are now focused on the Quarter finals of the Pennine Cup this weekend against Brighouse Rangers, but also have one eye on the League and keeping their 2nd Division status

The 2nd team although numbers have been very healthy have struggled on the pitch, having lost heavily against teams that should never have been in the 6th Division, but then turning over genuine 6th division teams like Cowling and King Cross.

Changing Facilities
Frustratingly, the club is still pushing on with updating the clubs changing facilities; we are exploring several options with the council and other local community groups.
One positive thing though is that the Appleton Academy School is coming along and we will be looking to move the juniors up to the new school in time for next summers 2013 season

Wyke Juniors at Odsal
Wyke under 8’s, under 10’s and under 12’s will be laiking at Odsal Stadium at half time between the Bradford Bulls and Castleford Tigers on the Bank Holiday Monday 4th June. More information will follow closer the time

Juniors in the spot light
Wyke Rugby Club now operate with five junior teams at Under 8’s, under 10’s, under 12’s, under 14’s and under 17’s levels.
The 8’s and 10’s operate in the West Riding League, the 12’s and 14’s now operate in the Yorkshire League and the Under 17’s are in the Yorkshire Combination League.
All the juniors except the under 17’s now play in play Summer Rugby and are looking forward to their season which starts at the beginning of March.

The under 17’s have been promoted to the 1st Division and are currently still unbeaten and are looking forward to seeing them laik in the West Riding Cup Final at Odsal Stadium, at a date yet to be confirmed in May.
We will keep you all informed as to when this Final will be and we hope you all support the tremendous achievements of this team.

Fund Raising

You can now raise money for the club every time you do your online shopping. All you have to do is go via our brand new Club Cashback shop –
http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/wykearlfc/cashback/
Our shop features all the top online retailers including Amazon, ASDA, Argos, John Lewis, Expedia, Sainsbury's, Boots, M&S, PC World and many more.
The cost is exactly the same as shopping direct, so you raise money for us at no extra cost to you!
Buying a Kindle from Amazon? If you go to Amazon via our Club Cashback shop, Amazon will be able to tell. And because the club shop 'referred you', they donate a percentage of whatever you spend back to us.
Planning your next holiday? The shop links to Expedia, Lastminute.com, as well as many airlines and car rental firms. Just be sure to visit their site via the Club Cashback shop!
It really is that simple. We're not asking you to use specific retailers, all we ask is when you shop online, please go via our shop and you can help us raise much needed funds this season.
There is no catch. You won’t have to sign up or be asked for any details whatsoever.
You really are helping the club by doing no more than you were going to do anyway!
