The first team’s winning start to the season ended when they were held at home to a 1-1 draw by Springhead in the Manchester League Premier Division. It could have been worse but Martin Blaine in goal kept Ammies in the game with some fine saves when the team were 1-0 down.

Wayne Dux’s men rallied in the second half with James ‘Bobby’ Russell outstanding in midfield and then defence. Pat O’Brian levelled matters with 10 minutes to go and he also nearly snatched all three points at the death when his left foot strike hit the post and Ricky Ives was unable to convert the rebound.

Ammies are in second place with the same number of points as leaders Hindsford who have a better goal difference. Next up for Ammies is a visit to Elton Vale.

The second team’s rich vein of form continued with an excellent 3-1 win away at East Manchester which moves them into third place.

A double strike by Josh Wraxhall and another from midfield dynamo Dean Preston ensured all three points. Matt Newell also shone in midfield playing alongside Dean and the result sets Ammies up nicely for next weekend’s clash again Prestwich Heys.

Table toppers Heys who have won all of their six league games and it promises to be a mouth watering match next Saturday with both teams full of confidence.

The third team suffered a blow after being beaten by an experienced Sky Wheels team in the second division of the Altrincham and District League.

Ammies went down 5-3 despite goals from Liam Jones, Dominco O’Reilly and Jack Lewis. The usually reliable goalkeeper Steve Preston (affectionately known as the Flying Pig) was not at his best, going down in instalments when conceding the crucial fourth goal from a free kick. Another veteran Mike Herdman had a better day being voted man of the match by the opposition.
