A WARM WELCOME TO EXISTING MEMBERS AND ANY NEW MEMBERSWelcome to Yardley Hockey Club. The Management Committee is sure you will enjoy your hockey and the friendly atmosphere at our small Club. Please do encourage anyone you know who is keen to play hockey, even if they have not played for a few years, to join us.

From the Club Chairman
Dear Member,

May I welcome you to another Yardley Hockey Club season. We shall be continuing to play our home games on the excellent facilities provided by the Small Heath Leisure Centre, Muntz Street. This season our slots are again1.00 p.m. – 2.30 p.m. for the 1st and 2nd X1 Fathom matches and 2.30 p.m. – 4.00 p.m. for the Badgers.

Good luck to all our captains. Robert McGuigan will be captaining the 1st XI in the West Midlands League Division 2. I will be continuing with the Fathom fixtures, while Jonathan Smith and his squad will again be in charge of the u16 Badgers and Jim Sumner will be coaching the u11s.

It is important that the Club has up to date contact details for all Club Members – including e-mail addresses. The Club will be seeking to increasingly use e-mail to communicate with Members. Members without internet access needn’t worry as they will continue to receive information by post. Please ensure that the secretary has your correct details. This will save Club officials much wasted time and effort.

Chris Wadhams

PRE- SEASON INFORMATION FROM THE CLUB SECRETARY

TRAINING:Youth training begins on Sunday September 11th starting at 11.00 a.m. at the Small Heath Leisure Centre.

Sunday youth training remains at 50p to help defray costs of equipment. Some schools are prepared to help youngsters meet this cost.
No schoolboy will pay more than £4 per week for their hockey in any circumstances – e.g. if they have played on Saturday in a Club team and paid their £4 match levy they will not be charged the 50p cost for Sunday training.

Adult training will continue on Wednesdays between 7.00 p.m. and 8 p.m. The start date is Wednesday 14th September. This training will be at Small Heath.

KIT: Home Games - red shirt, white shorts and red socks.
Away Games - white shirt, white shorts and white socks.

SUBSCRIPTIONS & LEVIES 2011 / 2012Our new Treasurer is confident that the subscriptions and match levies should remain unchanged. However, there are financial commitments that have to be met early in the season and so all Club members are urged to pay up as soon as possible. Please note that there is a slightly more generous deadline dates for paying subs. This is seen as fairer for those who, for many reasons, do not play many games early in the season.

Full member Reduced Schoolboys Non-playing member

Annual Sub £30* £10 £ 5 £5
Match Levy £ 6 £ 4 £ 4 n/a

* Please note that the £30 subscription applies provided it is paid in full by Monday 24th October 2011 at the very latest. This is the Monday of Half-Term week.
Please note that the initial subscription for new members will be £80. This covers the annual subscription and the cost of a numbered red and white club shirt.

For several seasons now some of our feeder schools, notably Small Heath and Saltley have used their ‘Gifted and Talented’ funds to assist their pupils in the paying of their weekly match levies. Unfortunately, that funding has now come to an end. Small Heath School has offered to continue with part-payment of the levies. The Club has therefore decided to ask school children to pay £1 per match to supplement what the school will be paying.

Full subscriptions paid after MONDAY 24th OCTOBER 2011, will be charged at £40.
Full subscriptions not received by MONDAY November 28th 2011 or afterwards will cost you a £20 penalty and so will then cost £50.

Reduced rates apply in specific circumstances and can be agreed with the Treasurer. It is the Club’s policy that no-one shall be prevented from playing hockey for the Club by difficult financial circumstances.

Levies must be paid in advance, i.e. before the game, or immediately after the game but not in arrears.
Please do not leave pitch side after the game or the dressing room without paying your match levy. Non payment leads to unnecessary demands on hard pressed kitty masters and complicated accounting.

Don’t wait to be asked for your levy – it’s your responsibility to offer it to the team kitty master collector yourself.
GOLDEN RULE: YOU PAY ON THE DAY

TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS
When Yardley teams travel outside the West Midlands it is a courtesy for players to offer the car driver a contribution towards the cost of petrol for the journey. There is no hard and fast club rule on this and each team will decide on how they deal with petrol money. However, if petrol money is collected, kitty masters should remember that if drivers carry younger players who are not charged for petrol, the contribution made to drivers for these youngsters can be reclaimed from the Treasurer.

Please ensure that any parent in the driver’s pool who transports young players to distant fixtures is aware of the situation and is strongly encouraged to accept re-imbursement of their petrol costs.

SPORTSMANSHIP ON AND OFF THE FIELDYardley Hockey Club puts a major emphasis on sportsmanship on and off the field. We want to maintain this high standard. Players must refrain from bad language in any circumstances. Spectators are rightly offended if they are aware that players are guilty of foul language and dissent.
PLEASE NOTE: Yellow cards for misconduct on the field will be reported to the Selection Committee meetings. Persistent offenders will have their selection reviewed. If any member is foolish enough to be sent off permanently, i.e. to receive a red card during the match, he should be aware that the Club may impose a stricter penalty and match ban than the Midlands Hockey Association itself. Persistent offenders may have their Club membership cancelled.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY
Tuesday 30th August 2011 First Selection Committee Meeting: 7.15 p.m.
Monday 19th September 2011 Management Meeting: 7.15 p.m.
Friday 18th November 2011 Race Night Social Event: 7.00 p.m.
Friday 17th February 2012 Curry and Quiz Social Event: 7.00 p.m.
Friday 30th March 2012 Annual Dinner: 7.30 p.m.
Saturday 31st March 2012 Club Day 1.00 – 4.00pm

How do we keep our subscriptions (just £30 basic for the year provided you pay in September) so low that we are the envy of every other Club in the Midlands? Apart from the skills of your Hon Treasurer it is by supporting our two regular social events that raise important funds for the Club – the Race Night, to be organised again this year with the Co-op Club, and our famous Curry and Quiz night, this year on 17th February 2012. The Race Night is in its tenth year. Previous years have all been very enjoyable occasions – and profitable for the Club – so put 18th November 2011 in your diary and come along.

OPEN MEETINGS CLUB POLICY
Both Management Committee and Selection Committee are open to all Club members should you wish to attend as an observer. If you want to come and see how the Club is run, please ask the Secretary for the next meeting date and let him know in advance if you can should you wish to attend.

At present there are two vacancies for co-opted members on the Management Committee. If you are interested, or know someone who might be, please contact the Chairman or Secretary.

INSURANCE:
Members are advised that whilst the Club does carry some third party insurance it does not presently take out any insurance to cover such items as personal injury or loss of possessions. If you wish to be insured against injury whilst on the field of play you should make personal arrangements with your insurers or at least check the current fine print.

Qualified coaches and umpires are covered for any liability by our Club insurance policy provided they are coaching or umpiring Club members, including junior members.

Should you be asked to stand in as an umpire by another Club to help them out in whatever circumstances please be aware that our insurance will not cover you against any claim. You should, if you accept the invitation to umpire, make this clear to both captains and any other umpire before the game and insist on an indemnity against any subsequent action, however unlikely they feel this to be. If you are likely to umpire other club matches outside the BCHUA system then please contact the Hon Treasurer.

UMPIRES AND COACHESThe Club is very keen to encourage members to take up umpiring or coaching. For a small Club we have a relatively strong umpiring and coaching panel, but new recruits are always very welcome. The Club may make some contribution towards the costs of achieving umpiring and coaching qualifications if you then use these skills for the benefit of the Club. If you are interested please speak to the Hon Treasurer or any of the Club Officials.
