A Warm Welcome To Yarnbury Juniors

Introduction : Mr Steve Lee
(Junior Chairperson)

Yarnbury RFC motto "Omnes Adferamus" (Let Everyone Contribute)

I am very proud to welcome you to Yarnbury RFC and I hope you enjoy getting involved in arguably the best game in the world as either a parent or player.

As a club we wanted to let you know what playing rugby at Yarnbury is all about and if you’ve never pulled the boots on before, don’t worry, neither have many players when they join our juniors. Please see our Junior’s Club Ethos and what we believe in.

I was brought up to Yarnbury by my dad in 1978 (click link below for a picture of me on my 1st day) and played in the Juniors, Colts and Seniors before becoming a referee and Junior coach. The journey has now gone full circle as both my boys now play for the club and I’m the one driving the car up Brownberrie Lane on a Sunday morning. Being a member at Yarnbury has given me a tremendous opportunity to not only learn about the game of rugby but it has given me the chance to develop good life skills and the opportunity to socialize and have fun with friends, teammates and opponents.

In the junior section we have teams from under 7’s through to under 16’s, who are all coached by Qualified RFU & CRB checked coaches. In addition to that the club boasts a number ELRA Qualified Society Referees. To assist the coach each team age group has a team manager and usually one or two other assistants who ensure the smooth running of each team.

As a small amateur rugby club we have had some recent successes. In fact in 2014 the 1st team made it through to Twickenham in the Senior Vase. We lost on the day, but the experience for the whole club travelling to London to see products of the junior section play at the home of England was one to be remembered. Over 75% of the players playing that day had come from the junior section and we are proud that many of our Juniors over the years have represented Yorkshire at various age groups.

If your child would like to take part and play at Yarnbury, I look forward to hearing from you.
