Remembrance Garden - UPDATED

Yarnbury to create lasting memory. Help Wanted Again!

WORK PARTY No2 : 28th October 10am

Following the success of work party No.1 we are having another get together on Sunday 28th October, at 10am. Its planned that the day wont be as wet as the last one but it will be as good. All we need to do is finish the raised garden, paint the steel supporting the fence and transfer the stone from the back pitch to the garden area. So if you have a trailer or van bring it along so to speed the work up.
This wont fully complete the garden but will ensure that when we have the opening weekend on 3rd and 4th November the garden area is taking shape and looks good.

Even if you can just make it for an hour all help is welcome.

With the AGP nearly completed, we are having a work party Sunday 14th October at the Club, the plan is to get the memorial garden under way, so there will be some “light” fetching and carrying to be done.

It starts 10am, get there first to get the best job.

We should be done by 1.30pm so try and make it even if its for an hour there will be food and beer available if required.

Many of you will now be aware Yarnbury RFC has successfully secured funding from the Rugby Football Union (RFU) for the installation of a new Artificial Grass Pitch (AGP). To secure the funding we have agreed that the AGP be installed on the existing First XV pitch. The installation work will require the top surface of the pitch to be removed, this is not a problem as many would welcome an improved playing surface.

Yarnbury established its self at Brownberrie Lane in the early 1970’s and during that time several Yarnbury members have had their ashes scattered over the playing surface that will soon be removed. To respect their memory and to allow future members to have the same opportunity we have decided to remove a section of Top soil from the playing surface and place it in an area that will become a small remembrance garden for them and any future members.

Unfortunately, the Club has no record of who has had their ashes scattered, so I am asking everyone to contact former members and friends of Yarnbury to help us identify those individuals. Also, if possible the contact details of their surviving family. Once we have established a list of names it will allow us to reference their names in the remembrance garden.

If you can let me know or 07753 495922.

The area of land selected for the garden is opposite the changing rooms between “Bobs Hut” and the existing steps that gives access to the current 1st XV pitch. All costs associated with the Garden will be met by the club, and all work will be undertaken by volunteers so, should you wish to help let me know, you will be rewarded in Heaven and there will be a pint or two as well

Thanks in advance
