Yarnbury went over the try line 3 times in the first 40 minutes, but only came in at half time with 10 points and 14 men on the field. However, even though they were a man down, a five try second half secured in the win in awful conditions.
The opening 10 minutes of the game were fairly cagey, with both teams kicking well and putting full backs and wingers under pressure. But Yarnbury broke the deadlock in the 10th minute by keeping the ball in hand and working their way up the pitch. After attempting to throw the ball wide on a couple of occasions, the home side went back to pick and drives and eventually following good efforts from Alex Koppany and Luke Woodend, it was Nathan Snee who reached for the line and scored. The conversion was missed; 5-0. Form a Yarnbury scrum soon after, just outside the 22, Maxwell Lee came away with the ball and played three dummies before releasing Josh Dunn who offloaded when he hit the contact to Nathan Snee who crashed over the line again, but was held up over the line.
By the 20th minute Yarnbury had had the better of possession and territory and Wharfedale were constantly under pressure as a result. However this had led to no score, and a turn for the worse was going to come for the home side. Jacob Rawson, in space, broke well down the left wing into the 22. He was then on the receiving end of a high tackle for the second week in a row, but advantage was played. With a free play Oscar Andrews chipped over the defensive line into the path of Edward Green. However the defence gathered but following a late hit from Nathan Snee, a fight ensued and resulted in the Yarnbury eight being shown a straight red card for his part in the scrap. Yarnbury lost advantage and Wharfedale were able to clear. It took 15 minutes for the next score to come, in the final play of the half. Yarnbury were playing very direct rugby with the forwards ploughing through the opposition. The pack were rewarded with a scrum right in front of the Wharfedale posts, and Maxwell Lee was this time able to release Josh Dunn who scored in the corner. The conversion was missed. Half time Yarnbury 10-0 Wharfedale.
Yarnbury scored almost immediately after the break, again playing direct rugby they made their way all the way up the pitch and following a couple of pick and drives, were able to score in the corner through Carter Proctor. The conversion was missed; 15-0. 15 minutes later Yarnbury scored their fourth and Joe Birchall’s 1st try of the match. Almost all possession and territory was the home side’s and they used this to good effect. Edward Green put in a testing cross field kick that was gathered and grounded by the defender but he was said to have carried the ball back over his own line, resulting in a five meter scrum. Playing without a number eight, Joe Birchall was able to pick the ball up at the base of the scrum and charge over to score. Another conversion was missed 20-0.
In the last 10 minutes of the match Yarnbury added 3 more tries to the score line. Yarnbruy had a 5m lineout after they were awarded a penalty for an infringement at the ruck. Once bought down the ball found Jack Brownridge in space and he almost made the line, but it was Joe Birchall who picked up and scored again; 25-0. Soon after Yarnbury had a 5m scrum following an almost carbon copy of the cross field kick by Edward Green, this time kicked by Oscar Andrews. The fly half was given the ball following the scrum and ran back around the forwards before passing to Joe Birchall who completed his hat-trick from one meter out. More pick and drives followed the kick off and after being held up over the line once more, another 5m scrum was taken. The ball was passed wide before pick and drives were required to finish the game off with a score under the posts from Edward Green. The final conversion was kicked. Full time Yarnbury 37-0 Wharfedale.
