Edwards, Hogg and Hedges strike

A win is a wind ... this competition gives us a great opportunity for some success this season
- Andrew Simmons, YHC Mens 1xi Captain

Good news.

The Mens 1xi are through to the Hampshire Trophy Quarter finals after defeating Fleet & Ewshot 3-2 in the last 16 of the Hampshire Trophy,

The Mens 1xi were able to put the struggling league form to one side and progress to the next round, thanks to goals from Sam Edwards, Chris Hogg and Chris Hedges.

The first game back is always difficult and this was no exception, with Hogg and Hedges scoring late to ensure the deserved winners progressed after a dominant first half display.

The team welcomed back Charlie Saxby in goal and were delighted with his assured display throughout. Yateley were cruising at half-time, having a lot of possession through-out the half. Sam Edwards continued with his impressive development this season, converting a swift team move to make it 1-nil. Sam nearly bagged a second shortly after, however his effort rattled the cross-bar instead of the net.

Despite Captain Simmons asking his team to keep it simple in the second half, Yateley were facing a shock defeat, as F&E scored two counter-attacking goals in quick succession half way through the second half. With the game nearing a close, the away side still kept probing away and were rewarded as a direct attack down the opposition base line led to Chris Hogg tapping in at the back post.

Yateley knew that they were in the ascendency and wanted to kill the game off rather than face the fate of a penalty flick competition. As they continued to press and create chances, it was obvious the opposition were starting to flag. With two minutes to go, Yateley found Chris Hedges at the back post to convert a smooth team play, securing their spot in the quarter finals.

Captain Simmons commented after the game: " A win is a win, especially when we haven't had too many this season. The next round is a while away, so we will make sure we are fit and ready. We are all disappointed with our league form to date, but this competition gives us a great opportunity for some success this season. We are active in the transfer window and are working round the clock to bring in new faces ahead of the player transfer deadline in February." With names such as Wylie, Stevenson, Rowe, Jeffs and Bockett-Pugh recently circulating in the media, President JB may need to charge his drill in anticipation for putting up a new trophy winning team picture.

The Quarter and Semi finals will take place on Saturday 16 April 2016 in Southampton - full details to follow when known. The guys really need your support so please keep the date free and come down and support.
