A round up from Yateley ladies hockey matches on Saturday 13th Jan.

Yateley 1s v Eastleigh, won 4-1
Ladies 1s secured their first win of the season on home turf with a cracking team performance. A first goal from Gemma Baugh built the confidence of individuals and the team with fantastic passing, pressure on the oppo ensuring Yateley won those 50/50 balls and pushed forward with constant attacks. Gibbo put the home team up 2-0 at half time with a well fought goal. Yateley showed solid defence against the Eastleigh height in attack and calmly built from the back with a great possession game resulting in a superb goal by Rachel Powell at a near impossible scoring angle. Eastleigh were able to claw back one goal, but there was no way Yateley were going to let this win slip from their grasp; a brilliant finish with final goal from super-sub Becks James to make a fantastic 4-1 result to Yateley and rounding off a great week for player of the match, Lizzie Messenger.

Romsey v Yateley 2s, draw 0-0

The Ladies 2’s went on confidently with the full intention of winning the game, but struggled in the first half to get the ball in the attacking D. Romsey also came out hard from the 1st whistle, and seemed to intercept the ball quite elegantly from the start, catching Yateley off guard a few times and allowed them some play in our D. Ten minutes before the half time was blown, Yateley managed to get some aggressive attack’s in from the right hand side. They were not able to seal the deal, despite a near miss with the keeper on the floor smothering the ball ?. Yateley were unlucky not to be awarded a short, but had to play to the whistle and umpires decision. Romsey were full on and physical from the start and had some opportunities to hit the back of the net, with some short corners awarded. However, Yateley's solid defence kept them out and they did not manage to score.

After finishing 0-0 in the first half, Yateley re-grouped at half time, determined to go out stronger and play their game.

From the start of the 2nd half, they certainly did go and stronger and harder, which unsettled Romsey no end, resulting in some errors and enabling Yateley to get back into attacking mode. The Yateley team played some great short sharp passes, worked in triangles up and down the pitch, and this resulted in creating more opportunity to get into the attacking half of the pitch.

With a tiring Romsey team, Yateley kept on fighting and putting the pressure on and eventually winning a short corner. Unfortunately, they were not able to convert, but walked away from a tough game on a difficult pitch, with a 0-0 draw.

Yateley 3s v Aldershot & Farnham, Lost 0-2
The Ladies 3s fielded a strong team against Aldershot & Farnham and built on the team’s progress in previous games, with tighter marking, solid defence and great linking passes. It was an even match with some probing attacking runs from the home team, as well as amazing saves from returning GK and player of the match, Gill Salter. The score was held to 0-0 until well into the 2nd half, despite increasing pressure and frustration from the Aldershot & Farnham forward line. With 8 minutes to go, the Yateley team were hopeful of retaining the draw to get some points on the board and were unlucky to concede a well placed goal following sustained attacks by the oppo. The home team took a few minutes to regain their focus, conceding another goal in the meantime to leave the final score at 0-2. There is much to be proud of with this team performance which is improving each week as the players and team game continues to develop.

Haslemere vs Yateley 4s, Won 0-2
The Ladies 4s continued their victorious run with 2 late goals to win 2-0 and retain their place at the top of the table.
