A tough day at the office....

Yateley 1 Winchester 9

The Ladies 1s knew it was going to be a hard game against, top of the table, Winchester, but were caught off guard with two early goals through clinical penalty corner routines. The team confidence which has been building over the past weeks, seemed lacking in the first half with concentration and discipline not at the level needed for such a strong opposition. Winchester scored another from open play, following a quick-paced attack and a passing game full of finesse. Supporters and team were buoyed by a penalty corner conversion by Yateley, only for the goal to be disallowed. This gave some confidence and Yateley were able to cross the goal line through birthday girl and player of the match, Gemma Baugh. However, Winchester's response showed the quality of the travelling side as they rallied with a flurry of goals to take the scoreline to 1-6 before the break.
A constructive team talk boosted the concentration and purpose in the Yateley side, with tighter marking, more pressure applied quickly at the breakdown and some great attacking runs. This stemmed the tide of full-on Winchester attacks, along with some amazing saves from goalie, Nicki Smith, but Winchester's team-work and speed of play still managed to penetrate to score a further 3 goals in the second half ending with a 1-9 scoreline.

Yateley are looking to bounce back and re-instil the team confidence in their re-scheduled game v Southampton on Sunday 28th.
