REPORT: Yate Town 1-1 Dorchester Town - FA Trophy

2 weeks ago By Sebastian Parker

Another gritty, gutsy performance against higher-league opposition deservedly earned a second go at the tie in Dorset on Tuesday, writes John Davis.

The visitors got away to an impressive start and dominated the first thirty minutes with some slick passing moves and plenty of running off the ball. Featuring notably was striker Ben Seymour who has just joined Dorchester on loan deal from Exeter City.

Cameron Murray had a shot blocked, Billy Lowes was just off target and Luke Winsper rattled the top of the crossbar with a shot from distance.

Two long crosses from the left foot of Nick Peare caused the Dorchester defence problems. Ollie Mehew just failed to get his head on the first one while Ross Langworthy reached the second but could not direct his effort on target.

Mehew then got free down the left but after cutting inside he lost the ball when a pass across the box to Langworthy might have been the better option.

It took a class finger tip save from Lewis Thomas to deny Antonio Diaz at the start of the second half and the Yate goalkeeper was in action again soon after when he sprinted off his line to block a shot from Seymour.

Some determined defending by the home side often provided a springboard for attack with Langworthy forcing a save from Kingsley Latham and later, his replacement, Ben Brooks, curling a shot just wide of the upright.

Dorchester took the lead on 76 minutes, substitute Aaron Rodrigues cutting in from the right before squaring the ball to the lively Seymour who slotted home.

The reply was immediate. One moment Thomas was making another important save at the Lodge Road end while seconds later the ball was in the Dorchester net as Brooks headed home on the near post following a pin-point cross from a marauding Sam Boulton.

Seymour fired just over late on and substitute Tom Blair went down hopefully in the box but, after a highly entertaining game played in a good spirit and very well controlled, Yate held firm to take a second bite at the cherry.

Man of the match: Lewis Thomas (Yate Town). Attendance: 175. Entertainment rating: 5/5

Yate Town: Thomas, Hitchings, Keightley, Peare, Ford, Boulton, Kamara (Evans 75 minutes), Guest, Mehew, Langworthy (Brooks 60 minutes), Twyman. Subs: Not used: Rennie, Knight, Nembhard.

Following Tuesday's replay, it's back to league action with two tough away games, at AFC Totton on Saturday and against Bristol Manor Farm on Tuesday November 6th.
