Match Report by John Davis

The fourteenth league draw of the season, thanks to an Adam Price special, produced another point but generally it was a frustrating performance in which the opposition, despite playing a second game in three days, proved highly committed and difficult to break down.

The first chance of the game fell to Slimbridge striker Edji Mbunga. Played through by Marley Thomas he was unlucky to see the ball rebound off his legs from Harvey Rivers' save and then sail over the crossbar.

Within minutes though the visitors were in front as Jamie Martin was set free up the right and he went on to beat Rivers with a low shot.

The home side failed to put coherent moves together. The ball was often lost before it could be released and a number of shooting chances were blocked on the edge of the box by Slimbridge's stubborn defensive wall.

Visiting goalkeeper Ollie Hall did have to come off his line to block the progress of Ross Langworthy on one occasion and Steve Davies headed over the top from a Langworthy free kick.

Slimbridge started the second half strongly and, with the lively Mbunga in the thick of the action, should have put the game to bed with further goals.

Mbunga had a goal-bound effort blocked, might well have won a penalty when his legs were taken away in the box and then hit the underside of the crossbar with a rasping drive after another good run.

Thankful for the let-offs, Yate got back into the game after 76 minutes when Adam Price picked up a loose bouncing ball just outside the penalty area and volleyed powerfully into the roof of the net for his fourth goal of the season.

Ironically it was the home side who almost won it in the closing stages when a Chris Gregan shot, as he cut in from the right, took Hall by surprise although the Slimbridge keeper did get enough on the ball to keep it out of the net.

Next up is Tuesday night's visit of play-off chasing AFC Totton before the trip to Winterfield Road to cross swords with John Rendell's Paulton Rovers.
