Yate vs Swindon Supermarine - Match Report

Davies brace earns Bluebells a hard fought victory

Yate Town 2 Swindon Supermarine 0

If there is anything to be learned about this game it's that stubborn resistance and hard-working determination followed by a growing confidence to counter attack with purpose will get you what you deserve and win football matches.

Under the cosh for much of the early stages of the game, Yate weathered the storm and once they had broken Supermarine's resolve went on to win with two goals from Steve Davies-his first since joining the club.

It was all Supermarine early on and Yate's cause was not helped when skipper Charlie Hitchings was helped off after only twelve minutes with a leg injury.

Joe Selman and Connor Thompson looked lively for the visitors, Ryan Campbell had a free kick saved by Harvey Rivers who was also tested by a long range effort from Josh Parsons.

There were let-offs for Yate later in the half, Parsons striking the base of the post in a goalmouth scramble and Selman repeating the feat when he cut in from the right wing.

Yate's only real chance came when Davies was played through on goal but Supermarine goalkeeper Josh Hill was quickly off his line to smother the ball.

The visitors wasted several good chances with wayward shooting early in the second period as the Yate defence, well marshaled by supporters man of the match Trey Anderson and Sam Boulton, stood firm. Later Rivers was well positioned to block a close range effort from George Kellow with his legs and then Joe Shepherd blasted over the crossbar when clear.

Looking to get forward on the break whenever they could, Yate got in front inside the last five minutes when an alert assistant referee spotted a handling offence as the ball was crossed into the goalmouth and Davies kept his nerve to beat Hill from the penalty spot.

It needed a second goal to settle the nerves and when it arrived minutes later it came in style. In another quick break substitute Jamie Clark-Samuel fed Davies up the left and the Yate frontman cut inside a defender to curl a superb shot into the top corner with his right foot.

Attendance 174: Joint Star Men: Trey Anderson and Steve Davies.

Yate Town: Rivers, Anderson, Blake, Llewellyn, Boulton, Hitchings (Gabbiadini 12 minutes), Elcock (Difford 57 minutes), Leigh-Gilchrist, Davies, Brooks (Clark-Samuel 82 minutes), Tanner.
