Lydney Town 0-5 Yate Town
Five-star Yate defeat Lydney
An early Jack Camm corner, again whipped into the near post, caused problems for the home defence and the loose ball was gratefully fired home By George Box. Some bright attacking from Lydney, and especially one dangerous run cutting in from the right meant that Yate had to defend compactly. Brad Abraham & Eugene Keary were linking the play, finding spaces in midfield and a fine ball over the top from Keary put in Box, who rode a strong tackle and finished low past the keeper for 0-2.
A loose clearance put Charlie Hitchings in some trouble, as the home striker turned him before blazing an effort over, before an interchange between Box & Chris Gregan on the left almost put in Camm, but he couldn’t find the target.
Lydney started the half sharply with a strong burst down the right to the bye-line but the resultant cross was blocked clear, before Keary again was the provider with an exceptional dinked pass into the area for Box to cut-back to Luke Bryan, who netted the third. A switch in the attack line followed, with Ben Brooks and Jack Ball on for Box & Bryan, and they immediately linked only for the home keeper to just get something on Brooks’ goal-bound effort.
Although Yate were creating more frequent chances, Lydney still played their football, almost benefitting from a jinking run on their left. Hitchings was able to deflect away the shot that came in as a result, before Ball burst clear twice for Yate in a short time, forcing the home keeper to block strongly first of all, then expertly hooking in a finish but then having the goal ruled out for a handball.
The home custodian again saved excellently from Brooks’ point-blank side-foot volley, before the striker claimed a clinical late brace, following decent moves and precise deliveries to feet, from Tyrone Fudgell and then Kyle Thomas.
