Didcot Town 1-2 Yate Town
Smash and grab win at Didcot
A second half comeback secures Yate second successive victory and now makes it 4 unbeaten with two second half goals sealing victory at Didcot.
The host took the lead 5 minutes into the second half, but Yate responded well and equaliser on the 77th through loanee Connor Jones, and with the last kick of the game Mike Baker scores a truly amazing goal from 60 yards out with a free kick.
The first half should be forgotten quickly, with both sides offeringvitrually nothing going forward, Harvey Rivers making a save towards the end of the half to prevent Didcot.
Yate started the second half slow, and allowed the hosts to take the lead, 5 minutes into it. Reid firing high into the roof of the net beating Rivers and Yate's appeals of offside were in vein.
Harvey Rivers prevented the hosts from killing off the game with a second goal, pulling off a smart save to stop them scoring their second goal of the game.
The momentum shifted the way of Yate as the game entered the last 15 minutes of the game. The ball was manoeuvred into the path of substitute Connor Jones, and from a central position 25 yards out he hammered the ball home into the top corner.
Yate continued to push forward in search of the winner. Lewis Fogg on his return nearly found just that but was denied by the Didcot stopper and has it looked like it was going to end in a stalemate Mike Baker stepped up for a defensive free kick from about 60 yards out.
His smart thinking and quick reactions to spot the Didcot keeper off his line and take the free kick paid off as he sent a looping ball over the back peddling keeper and into the goal, in what was an extraordinary finish to the game and a great victory for Yate as we move closer and closer to mathmatical safety.
