REPORT: Yate Town 1-1 Cinderford Town

4 months ago By Sebastian Parker

A point a piece at Lodge Road, as Yate stay top of the table.

Recent games between the two sides have always been close encounters and this was certainly no exception, writes John Davis.
The well organised Forest of Dean outfit always posed a threat when getting forward and often managed to get eight men behind the ball when danger threatened.
Ross Langworthy and Ollie Mehew were Yate's liveliest front-men in the early stages. Mehew had a short blocked and Langworthy got up well to a right-wing cross from Mayson Evans but could only head the ball wide.
Cinderford were restricted to long range efforts at the other end. A Lewis Bamford shot from outside the box was easily held by Lewis Thomas who then went full length to hold a ground shot from Dan McDonald.
Langworthy fired wide after being set up by Mehew, Nick Peare just failed to finish off a Mehew cross at the far post and Cinderford goalkeeper Alex Harris did well to turn away a Langworthy effort after the winger had stormed into the box in another strong run.
It took Cinderford only a minute to break the deadlock at the beginning of the second half as the lively Bamford was brought down just inside the box by Charlie Hitchings and McDonald drove the penalty kick that followed into the far corner.
It could have been 2-0 soon afterwards but Yate escaped when Richard Greaves' shot following Bamford's pass hit the top of the crossbar and went over.
Yate quickened the pace and introduced a second wide-man in substitute Dave Sims-Burgess in order to get back into the game though some poor crossing and lack of movement at times hampered progress.
In the end it took a piece of individual skill to level the scores, Sims-Burgess rounding three defenders in a mazy run in from the right before slipping the ball under the diving Harris.

Yate star man: Ross Langworthy. Attendance: 197. Entertainment rating: 4/5

Yate Town: Thomas, Evans, Keightley, Peare, Ford, Hitchings, Kamara (Sims-Burgess 66 minutes), Guest, Mehew (Spruce 75 minutes), Langworthy, Twyman. Subs not used: Boulton, Rennie, Cann.
