Yate’s unbeaten start to the season was maintained following a well earned draw at Salisbury in the FA Cup. The replay will take place at the Universal Components Stadium, Lodge Road this Tuesday 11th September - Kick-off 7.45pm.
This was always going to be a difficult tie for Yate against a team who won promotion last season and on our last visit to the Ray Mac stadium in February we were beaten 6.2 – However Polly has recruited well over the summer and this is a much stronger Yate squad and yesterday’s solid performance clearly demonstrated the strength; belief and quality that now exists.
Yate fell behind to a well worked Salisbury goal in the 39th minute, up to that point they had rarely been troubled apart from a Lewis Benson free kick that led to a great save from Ross Grimshaw. Yate quickly responded and in the 42nd minute Mayson Evans delivered a deep cross to the far post that was superbly volleyed into the corner by David Simms-Burgess – His second goal in two matches.
Despite increased pressure from Salisbury in the second half we also had our chances and could have won the game through Simms-Burgess and Olly Mehew. Overall a draw was a fair result following another great team performance, with Ross Grimshaw excellent in goal, our defence looked very solid with Charlie and Josh; Mayson and Elliott. Joe Guest and Jack Twyman ran their socks off in midfield and Olly Meyhew worked hard up front to close down their defence.
Polly’s view – “ A solid performance”
We now look forward to welcoming Steve Claridge and his team for the replay this Tuesday evening and hope we can attract another good crowd. This should be another exciting match and hopefully our fantastic start to the season will continue.
