Joe slams the door Shutt at The Farm
A brace from Joe Shutt and a Luke Henderson penalty harvests the 3 points for Yate at Bristol Manor Farm
After a brisk start from Yate with good approach play, there was a need to settle down and not be too anxious. An Oscar Bright pass in from the right found Tom Harrison taking up a good position to force a decent save from the Farm keeper.
The home side threatened in attack too, feeding a ball into the left channel and it needed a combination of a defensive foot in and Mason Hawkins standing up well to stifle the effort on goal. A fine back to front move opened the scoring, as Ewan McMillan’s excellent tackle started the play, followed by Gianni Porcara slipping the ball in the right channel. Joe Shutt collected and crisply drove in across the keeper into the left corner. 0-1
A home attack down the right and a whipped cross across the face of goal was uncomfortable, with an indecisive contact allowing Hawkins to grab the loose ball gratefully. Generally though, the away defence coped well with the hosts threats. Harrison was powerful in front of the back line, especially in the air. McMillan marshalled excellently, getting in crucial blocks, and vocally ensuring that the defensive shape was maintained.
Early after the restart, Harrison created for Luke Henderson with a ball over the top, who unfortunately pulled his shot wide and, from the resultant goal-kick, the ball was fed into the box by the home side for their striker to win the race against Hawkins and nick the ball past him into the net. 1-1
The visitors soon responded with an attack down the left and a ball into Henderson was held up superbly, and chested down for Shutt to slam it home from close in, to restore Yate’s advantage.
Jimmy Sellick then came off the bench to make a difference, hassling the home right back in the corner and nicking the ball away. As he dashed into the box, he was tripped and Henderson calmly despatched the spot-kick for 1-3.
