Thirteen on the bounce as Yate trounce 10-man City
Yate get back to winning ways with an emphatic victory over Wells
On a chilly night and a frosty surface, Yate created good early pressure and concentrated on keeping the ball on the floor and patiently retaining possession. After forcing a corner from good interplay between Ellis Kow and Troy Sutherland, Joey Martin-Tulloch sent over a searching delivery to the far post and Toby Walwin headed home.
A sweeping move down the left found Kow, whose shot was finger-tipped onto the post by the away keeper who was then quick to react and block away the follow-up, before Sam Knight intercepted smartly to feed the same player. His flick over the keeper was eventually headed goalwards, and handled on the line. This led to a red card and Kow’s decisive despatch of the spot-kick for 2-0.
This seem to completely deflate the visitors, and the hosts exploited the spaces opening up over the park in a five-minute spell before the break. Kow cut-back a precise ball for Walwin to lash in from 6 yards, Justin Hall latched onto a pass from deep on the left to challenge the advancing keeper and slot home from the edge of the box, and Sutherland capped a fine run with an expert one-two and a measured finish into the corner.
Early on, Martin-Tulloch picked up a loose ball to take a touch and drill home for 6-0 before Hall held the ball up, turned his marker well and fired in the seventh. After a rare surge by the away side deep into the Yate half broke down, the resultant breakaway saw Kow show strength in the challenge and claim his brace from just inside the area, and then his precise pass inside the right back set George Holland free. He calmly beat the keeper low to his left for 9-0, before himself setting up Martin-Tulloch on the overlap to notch up double figures for Yate.
Walwin claimed his hat-trick after seizing on a weak clearance and persevering in the challenges before tucking the ball away. After the City keeper made three good saves within seconds, Knight smuggled the loose ball in, before threading a smart pass in for Kow to slam in his hat-trick goal.
