Yaxley Football Club will be looking for a new website editor to take over for next season.

Being the editor of Yaxleyfc.com has been a dream role for me.

It was the natural progression from writing books about the club for a few years. They covered the reign of Gary Clipston and were written as a diary of the seasons. I got a unique insight into just what was needed to run a non-league club over those years and I would like to think have brought some of that experience on to the website.

I have watched the Cuckoos pretty much all of my life and I wanted to contribute in my own small way to the success of "my" village club.

If you've read the books you will know my playing career ended with the club at the age of 13 but I remained interested and a keen spectator until joining the Management Committee in 2001.

The website was part of the brief then, but it was a lot more basic and carried a lot less content than it does today.

Yaxleyfc.com was then run by Jeff Lenton for a period of time before I took over again as a non-committee position and transferred the whole thing to the Pitchero platform.

With that came the added duty of maintaining the whole UCL database of fixtures and results. One of the things I am most proud of is that supporters of other clubs told me that they would visit our website as they knew it would be updated with content and the latest fixtures and results. Before the UCL launched their excellent website, we could lay claim to being one of the go to sites for supporters of the competition.

Even when I wasn't at matches I would be checking Twitter via my mobile phone to update everything.

And therein lies the key, with a young family and other commitments, I wasn't at the matches any more and I have come to the conclusion (over a period of time) that Yaxley Football Club deserves a website editor who is at matches and can report on them first hand rather than having to ring round family and friends to find out what has happened and then cobble content together.

So at the end of this season, my time behind the keyboard will be up.

Thanks to all of those people who have made my Yaxley FC experience so positive and I would like to wish all of the clubs teams at all levels the very best for the rest of 2016/2017 and beyond.

James
