Yelverton Whirlwinds won by 66 runs
League
| Yelverton Whirlwinds | 105/5 | vs | 39/9 | Lewdown |
Week 1 - League v Lewdown
Dunlop & Skelton bowl the Whirlwinds to victory
Despite the recent wet weather, the Yelverton U15 v Lewdown U15 fixture survived thanks to the hard work of Groundsman John Cowsill.
Yelverton won the toss on a gloomy evening and captain Jay Warner had no hesitation in electing to bat in a match reduced to 16 overs per side.
Josh Halloran (2) went early on, and Jay was joined by Ben Pearson and the pair were initially cautious and looked to take quick singles to frustrate the fielding side.
The pair put on a 2nd wicket partnership of 70 in 10 overs before Warner fell for a well played 40 (five 4's) with the score on 81. Pearson hit 2 consecutive sixes in his 31 before being bowled aiming for a third. Both Matt Adams & Harry Dunlop fell cheaply, but James Douie (19 n/o) played a short cameo knock to get Yelverton up to a 105-5 off their 16 overs.
Lewdown's reply started badly as Harry Dunlop bowled one of their openers first ball. Harry bowled an excellent opening spell taking 2 more wickets to finish up with figures of 3-0-5-3. There was to be no let up for the Lewdown batsmen however, as Sam Skelton picked up 3 wickets in his 2 overs (2-0-2-3). Harry Peak & Matt Adams picked up a wicket each and Matt Adams the assist for a run-out as Lewdown were bowled out for 39 leaving Yelverton winners by 66 runs.
