EGM 2017 news

As we progress into 2017, all things cricket are coming out of hibernation as we head towards the opening of a new season.

There are a few changes this year with Rich West and Pat Hobbs moving onto pastures new. Rich has captained the 1st XI for 6 years and last season was unfortunate not to guide us to promotion, missing out by a few points. Both Westy and Patch have been great servants for the club and we wish them well on their new endeavours.

In terms of recruitment we are continually looking to welcome new members at all age and skill levels with (at senior level) 3 Saturday Devon Cricket League teams, a Plymouth & District midweek team and a Sunday social team, along with various friendlies and tour teams. The youth set up continues to be strong with a positive approach to coaching with ECB qualified coach on Friday evenings, in a safe environment under auspices of the ECB Clubmark.

The EGM at the Royal British Legion on the 23rd February will seek to fill the playing officials posts along with some discussion on the selection method and Devon Cricket League restructuring proposals, I would ask that members try to attend as much as possible to canvas a club wide opinion on these matters.

Chris Pearson has also penned the news letter which is available in the documents folder on the website updating the Club news.

Cricket at grass roots level is going through some tough times in terms of funding, game participation and ground availability. This is reflected nationally and we have seen it on a county wide scale, and in my role as P&D Chairman, at a local level. Equipment, ground maintenance, insurance, utilities and the general day to day running costs all have an impact on the accounts and as a village club we are challenged with getting sponsorship and raising monies through bar revenues etc. I would urge members to get subscriptions paid promptly and as individuals look at sponsorship opportunities through work, relatives and other contacts. In order to make the game affordable to all, external income is essential and please get in touch with any of the committee members with ideas and any opportunities.

Details of the work weekend tasks will be listed shortly and these are earmarked as the first two weekends in April. 'Many hands make light work' is a prevalent phrase on these occasions with plenty of painting, cleaning and general repairs to be completed prior to the commencement of the season. We are blessed to have a ground in a beautiful part of the world and to have facilities in pristine condition is a great advert for the club for players and visitors on arrival.

We are currently awaiting the results of grant applications over the winter to carry out some small projects on the pavilion and we have re-registered for the Nat-West Cricketforce scheme with the ECB/Jewsons grant secured. We will also hopefully secure the ECB/Waitrose funding again for the Club Open Day.
Glanville Environmental have confirmed they will continue with the Club kit sponsorship for a second year so please support this with purchases of the logo'd kit from the club shop.

Further news will be forthcoming but in the meantime please get in touch if you have any views, ideas or comments.
