Acorn ran out winners in the preliminary round of the York and District cup against Heworth at a rain drenched Elm Park Way.
Both sides showed plenty of endeavour and tried to play some open rugby in difficult conditions.
Acorn took the lead on 5 minutes when Anthony Chilton sold a dummy from 10 yards out to go over he then converted to put the visitors 6 points up.
On 22 minutes a gap was created out wide which Adam Sellars
exploited as he raced over from 20 yards again Chilton converted.
Prop Chris Rushworth
stretched the lead on 34 minutes when he went over from close range, again Chilton goaled for an 18 point lead at half time.
Acorn put the game to bed in the first minute of the second half when Nick Caldwell scored after Heworth had knocked on after the restart.
Heworth though never gave in and kept Acorn under pressure with prop Tom Speck causing plenty of problems in attack.
The visitors scored again when full back Eddie Clapham latched on to an astute Chilton kick to score.
Heworth's efforts were rewarded on 64 minutes when Ben Potter capitalised on some good goal line pressure to go over.
Stephen Mackley rounded off the scoring on 78 minutes when he scored right in the corner to make the final score 30 points to 4.
In a tough game Heworth were served well by Lewis Worthington, Bobby Smith and Adam Caddy and for Acorn Steve Doswell Chris Rushworth
and Jimmy Mountford
all had good games.
