Another defeat for RI
Corinthians edge out RI but spirits are high.....
RI entertained a Corinthians side which until recently had been pushing for promotion and welcomed their very vocal supporters to New Lane. The first 10 minutes was all RI and an upset seemed to on the cards until the Corinthians 13 intercepted a loose pass and sprinted 70m to score under the posts. A simple conversion followed and Corinthians soon extended lead when their fly-half booted a long range penalty to underline his reputation as one of the best kickers in the division.
Pushing him close is RI own penalty expert Baptiste Brui who duly reduced the arrears with a well struck kick which was soon followed by a try as Lee O'Brien used his blistering pace to score in the corner. The sides exchanged penalties and Corinthians went into half-time with a 11-13 lead.
The visitors started the second half strongly and extended their lead to 11-16 after which RI took control of the game. Although the line-out didn't function as well as last weeks performance at Hessle the scrum was solid and regularly shunted Corinthians backwards. RI battered the visitors line and were rewarded as man of the match Ben Hartop scored to level the game with Bruis conversion bouncing back off the post.
At the death Corinthians put together their best move of the game moving the ball quickly through their backs to score under the posts and take a 23-16 lead. With seconds remaining Chris Jones went on jinking run down the touch-line only to be brought down by a last gasp tackle which ended RIs hopes of taking something from the game.
