This is believed to be one of the earliest photographs taken of a York football team. The team is the senior side of the York Rugby Union Football Club of 1885, the year when the second team won the Yorkshire Junior Cup. Among the players of that team who are well-known in the city to-day is Dr. Noel Hood. Those in the group are:
