Thackley u19 vs Yorkshire Amateur u19 25/01/2012
On a relatively mild night the top two teams in the league, at present, met in a fixture which could define their seasons. On two previous meetings this season the sides drew at Bracken Edge 2-2 and the Ammers won a tight game at the same venue in the League Cup 2-1. It was therefore likely as not going to be close.
Ammers began brightly passing the ball quickly but lacked a cur=tting edge. Most of the build up breaking down before any clear cut chances we made. With their first atack Thackley took the lead on 12 minutes. A speculative ball through to the front men wasnt cut out and the Thackley forward picked his spot well striking the ball across Josh Avery and into the net.
Whilst not playing our best football the Ammers did keep up the tempo, however we seemed to lose out before we had ay end product to our play.
On 23 minutes we won a corner which Freddie Swales played in well, met by Courtney Westcarr who headed home from close range, 1-1.
Still the Ammers tried to make something happen but this was proving difficult. Matters were made worse when Thackley retook the lead. A well curled ball into the top left corner when he really should have been closed down sooner.
The second half saw our game improve and saw Thackley rely upon clearing their lines and start again further up field. It has to be said that with Thackley's long balls and the changes to the Ammers formation, neither keeper had a great deal to do during the second half. With that the match ended 2-1 to Thackley who in turn extended their lead at the top of the league.
With few games to play, in truth the Ammers are now playing for the runners up spot.
