Nyon v Zug
Zug suffer first defeat...
Nyon U18 (28) V Zug U18 (18)
8th October 2016.
Kick Off: 11:30
Referee: Joe Toner
Following a slight break in Club Rugby for a few weeks, as many ISZL players were playing 7’s for the school at Zurich, the club had a two week break, the second weekend showed a poor turn out for training, preventing any real coaching to be done in either the back or the forwards front row.
The team arrived after an early start for many, arriving in Nyon at 10.15am, for preparation and warm up.
The first half got off to a flying start with Zug’s powerful forward play and Zug scoring three tries, Tomas D X 2, Jim S (on his debut), .
Corner tries made it difficult for the successful conversions, so three tries and 15 points.
Nyon scored a try down our left hand side with strong back running and broke the line to score under the posts, they duly converted.
Half time score was 15-7 to Zug.
The second half kicked off with play being much the same as the first half, Zug again dominant in the forwards, the pick and driving was being really successful, the forwards were tiring so the ball was moved through the backs to our left hand flank where Casper was stopped just short of the line by fine Nyon defending, the ball was turned over in the ruck and Nyon broke away to score a 95 metre try under the posts.
Zug kicked off and after some huge big tackles Nyon were penalised for diving over the ruck, Zug were awarded a penalty on the 10 metre line and the decision was taken to go for goal, Jack stood up and slotted the penalty to make the score 18-14 going into the last 15 minutes.
Zug now were tired and Nyon had their tails up, from the kick off, Zug knocked on from the high ball inside our 22 and Nyon whilst understanding they were getting no purchase through the forwards, they moved the ball through the backs to take advantage of their pace and eventually scored in the right hand corner and then converted.
The last 5 minutes of play, Zug were now pinned in their 22 and Nyon were penalised, space was available on the left hand flank and the decision was taken to exploit this space and run the ball, in an attempt to turn the fortunes around. The decision wasn’t wrong the execution was poor, the ball got stuck in the forwards and panic saw a throw away ball 10 metres from our try line and Nyon seized on it and took the ball over the line for their fourth try and bonus point.
Final score Nyon 28 - Zug 18.
The team were clearly disappointed with the last 15 minutes of play, and hopefully they all understand that we cannot expect to turn up to games without practise and expect to win.
Players you need to commit to training all of you, if you wish to win this league. The next game is against Bern on 13th November, please everyone needs to be available for this game and the two weekends proceeding this for training.
