Acklam 0 Durham City 38

By Paul I'Anson

City are just too good for Acklam

Despite Acklam's best efforts a hard running Durham City side were too good for them and they went down to a comprehensive 38 nil defeat.
Acklam received the kick off facing the breeze in the first half. They ran the ball and centre Marcus Sudron made a promising break but his pass didn't go to hand. From the scrum City kicked deep and a poor return kick was gathered in midfield and City were able to run through and score under the posts to take an early lead.
The visitors soon scored again - following a long City kick to touch Acklam took a quick throw then cleared. However, City ran from their line out to score again, the conversion was missed but they were 12 nil up within the first ten minutes.
Acklam's attempts to run and get themselves back into the game were frustrated by handling errors and strong City defence. City stretched their lead further when their prop burst through for another try under the posts. Acklam had a man advantage for the last 10 minutes of the half after one of the visitors ' wingers was given a yellow card, but they were unable to make it count and it was nil 19 at the break.
Acklam were able to exert some pressure early in the second half. When City were penalised in front of their posts Acklam turned down a kick at goal to opt for a scrum in their search for a try. They ran the ball but knocked on and City were able to clear their lines.
When City broke away Acklam were penalised twice in quick succession and number 8 Andy Dalton was given a yellow card. City took immediate advantage to run the penalty and score in the corner.
The game was still being fiercely contested and City's full back was also sent to the sin bin shortly afterwards. However, City were able to score two more tries in the last 10 minutes to seal their victory, Acklam going down by 38 nil.
Acklam are now in 11th place and have an important match next week away to Gateshead who are a place below them.
