Match Reports

Acklam Mini/Midi’s enjoyed their first festival of the season on a lovely sunny Sunday morning with two of our teams playing away from home and two been the host.

Under 7’s @ Guisborough Festival by Philip Hilton

Player David,Molly, Josh, Harry, Jenson and Angel
The youngest team at the club made the short trip to Guisborough and with two new players making their debut for the club Molly and Angel

All the three games we played were ya normal under 7’s end to end matches with high scores and tags flying everywhere but always a joy to watch as all teams players all left with a smile on there faces

The players did well with some great support play and defending nearly all players getting one or more tries and Angel score her first and Molly got a handful throughout the day with great runs down the wing, David with his powerful running at players and never giving in on chasing players down, Harry still getting used to the game but showing the enjoyment of it, Josh always there in support to help his team mates and Jenson slowly getting more minutes of play under his belt with a couple of runs today

Scores
Guisborough 13 v 12 Acklam
Acklam 10 v 13 West Hartlepool
Guisborough 5 v 5 Acklam

Acklam U9s hosted our 1st rugby festival of the season today.
We welcomed teams from Guisborough, Hartlepool & Haughton.
All teams played a great brand of rugby, showing great ball handling, off loading & fantastic tackling and running skills.
We lost the first two games of the day, both close matches with good rugby played by all players.
In our third and final game of the day our team showed great spirit & teamwork against a very strong Guisborough side. The match was drawn with both sets of players showing great rugby skills.
A big thank you to all players, parents & coaches from all teams for making it a fantastic morning of rugby.

Under 11’s Hosting Guisborough by Andrew Lythgoe

-Team Charlo Lythgoe, Daniel Fox, Ethan Bell, Henry Overend, Jude Bezance, Junior Jimoh, Logen Hilton, Matthew Thompson, Max Edwards, Nathan, Thomas and Harley

- First match Acklam 0 Guisborough 5
- Second match Acklam 0 Guisborough 4

We turned out today for our first home match of the season against our old friends from Guisborough.

In the first match the opposition were out of the blocks fast and caught us off guard. The first half was a bit of a wake up call after last weeks performance. The lads rolled up their sleeves and got back into the game in the second half with some good team play.

The second game was a much tighter affair (more than the scoreline suggests) and the lads did themselves, their parents and supporters proud. They was some great interplay at times and the handling was much better than the first game. Well done.

I must now ask all the players once again to respect not just the opposition but more importantly their own team mates. We ALL make mistakes during the game but the sign of a good team player is they will encourage their team mates during the game if they do something wrong. We ALL make mistakes and players individually know when they have done something wrong. The last thing a player needs is someone reminding them they have made a mistake. International players for England, New Zealand and Australia all make errors but come back again AS A TEAM. Dave and Bic will reminding everyone over the next few sessions of what is expected of them when they pull on the jersey to represent Acklam.

On a final note I would like, on behalf of everyone at the club, to welcome Harley and Thomas to the club. They have made the short trip from Acklam Park to Talbot Park. They made their debuts today and showed us all what they are made of! Well done both of you.

See you all Wednesday and look out for Phil's messages about next week.
Well done everyone!
UTA!

Under 12’s @ West Hartlepool by Jenna Dale

Dear all,

I would just like to say thank you for attending the festival today at west hartlepool. The team was made up of 10 players again this week, 5 man scrums were played throughout by, Bradley, Josh, Harvey, Thomas and John. The backs in this game where Dylan, James, Charlie and Aaron. The scrum half was Daniel.

The festival consisted of 3, 20 minute games. Acklam Vs Guisborough, Acklam Vs Middlesbrough & Acklam Vs Rovers.

The first game: Acklam played brilliantly throughout by working as a team. We started off running into the other team faces, making excellent ground. Acklam scored the first try. The skill set was fantastic just like last week. In the second half of this game however Guisborough scored 3 tries.

The second game, Acklam remained playing as a team. However middlesbrough had other ideas. I am really proud of the team for still playing a respectable game of rugby. Middlesbrough scored 6 tries.

The third game, During this game Acklam found their form. This is where the team work payed off. All players supported each other, this made this game enjoyable to watch. All player were able to show their skills off with a smile. Acklam won this game 10 try’s to 3. This is the conference boost the team needed, now they know themselves they have the skills, the team work and strength for a win.

There was no man of the match today as it was a festival with a number of matches being played. Each member of the team did really well. I am proud of today efforts, and the control the team displayed today was outstanding. The team player respectable games of Rugby throughout all three matches today. I would like to say thank you to each and every one of you for doing that.

I hope to see you all on Wednesday night for training.

Kind regards
Jenna
