Pro-Development: U18 leave it late to claim the points

By Dave Riley

Mikey Burkey’s late goal gives the U18 a 2-1 win over Holywell Town. Meanwhile the U19 are in friendly action against Cymru Alliance side Mold Alex.

Liam Schofield gave the U18 the lead in Sunday’s Flintshire Youth League clash at The Hollingsworth Group Stadium, before an equaliser early in the second half levelled up the match. Despite continually creating chances, the Holywell stopper was their equal as the scores remained level. However, late on a through ball found its way to Burkey, who cooly slotted home to give the U18 the points.

Last night, the U19 returned to action after their game with Bangor City was postponed. They hosted Cymru Alliance side Mold Alexandra, and the game certainly did not disappoint.

The wingmakers opened the game at a breathtaking pace and raced into a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Callum Burridge, Dan Shaw and an own goal. The tier 2 side hit back just before half time to reduce the deficit.

In the second period it was the Alex who started the faster and the scores were soon level at 3-3. Another Alex strike gave them their first lead of the game before a superb, solo Blake Robinson goal levelled the game again. It was always going to take another stunning goal to win the game and it proved to be the case with the Alex left winger cutting inside and unleashing an unstoppable effort past Ryan Neild.

Thank you to both Mold Alexandra and Holywell Town for travelling to us this week. We wish them both the best of luck for the rest of the season.
