AK1XV 15 vs Rochdale 1XV 7
A close and evenly fought battle for both N1W league strugglers as both teams find themselves languishing in the bottom 3 of the table, approaching the game with a "must win" attitude, AK went in the lead early doors from a Dave Coleman penalty.
Neither side giving anything away, with most of the play centrefield, it was turning into a game of strategy as both teams pushed to gain extra yards throughout the first half.
Rochdale, on what turned out to be the first occasion, broke through AK's resolute defence and managed to ground the ball, scoring a try which was duly converted.
Scores at half time 7-3 to Rochdale.
2nd half proved to be more difficult to break down Rochdale, as they dug deep, preventing AK from nearing the whitewash on more than one occasion.
Rochdale tiring quickly, were caught napping after having most of the play 2nd half, with Dave Coleman slipping though their defence for a well worked try which he expertly converted.
With scores now 10-7 to AK, it proved to be the much needed adrenaline shot, as JP Singleton saw his opportunity, jinking through the Rochdale defence, bagging himself a try.
Rochdale, made a last gasp attempt to pull back the score but AK pulled everything out of their locker to prevent further points being added.
Final score 15-7 to AK, on reflection both teams having difficult seasons, both plagued by injuries, a fair result on the day.
AK tries from Dave Coleman and JP Singleton, Pen and Conversion from Dave Coleman.
As always, great hospitality shown to AK players, supporters and officials from Rochdale RUFC, much appreciated.
