~ WINNING!!
Altincham Kersal travelled to Southport for the first match of the New Year. In a tight match the visitors edged home to a 28-29 win.
There was some ferocious defence and attacking play from both sides in a physical match between two teams looking to run the ball. Southport took an early lead with a penalty kick and eventually netted 18 of their 28 points from penalties.
Altrincham countered with three tries to leave the score 15-19 at half time.
Altrincham scored an early try in the second half which was followed by alternate tries for both sides leaving the final score at 28-29.
The crucial difference between the two sides was the ability of Altrincham Kersal to capitalise on the pressure created by solid defence and controlled pressure from both the forwards and the backs resulting in a five try to two victory.
This was a further bonus point win for the Altrincham side and leaves them still at the top of Lancs/Cheshire Division One.
Next week Altrincham Kersal host Fleetwood at Stelfox Avenue.
