Ambleside go top
By Paul Johnson
Ben, you beauty!!
Ambleside made the trip to Bare to be greated by a decent wicket despite rain. Ambleside bowled first, not sure if the toss was won or lost but as we have won from batting first and bowling first it didn't seem to matter. The receeding B. Wileman bowled with decent pace, and aided by a stiff breeze, made an early breakthrough. Bare dug in and a decent partnership was eventually broken by the very experience and youthful looking R. Dean, who bowled beautifully. After looking like they may get close to 190 or 200 Ambleside were pleased to bowl them out for 153. Praise must go to Barney for bowling quickly and accurately all afternoon, claiming 4-29.
A decent tea was eaten with the highlight being some out of date Tangy Toms, nom nom!
Ambleside found themselves two wickets down inside 10 overs with Oli and 'Mouth' out cheaply. It must be said, teams really do think once Oli Wileman is out they are 95% closer to winning the game and seeing 'Mouth' out for a second baller was fun!!
Johnson and Weddell built a small partnership before Weddell and Gaz continued after Johnson was out. At times it was nervy but Ambleside do bat deep into the tail with number 11 Deano averaging over 30 this season so as wickets fell a win was still the result we were after. Barney batted very sensibly unfortunately getting out with just two required. Youngster Ben impressed with his timing hitting one lovely 6 and fittingly he finished the game with a 4. A great win and a great advertisement for short form cricket, Bare posted a score and Ambleside tried to score more, how cricket should be played!
MOM - B. Wileman for his 4 wickets and sensible 21 runs, just my opinion though.
