Ashton face FC United of Manchester
FC UNITED OF MANCHESTER V ASHTON UNITED
DATE: TUESDAY 7TH AUGUST 2018
KO: 19:45
VENUE: Broadhurst Park, 310 Lightbowne Rd, Manchester M40 0FJ
The Robins were unlucky last time out, drawing 0-0 with Nuneaton Borough despite a strong showing all round. Manager Jody Banim will be hoping to build on the point gained with a win and a good performance against FC United on Tuesday, in a bid towards consolidating a strong start to what will be a tough season in this new league.
However, fans should expect a hard-fought match, as FC United will also be desiring a win to kickstart their season, after they lost 5-1 away to Stockport County on Saturday, placing them bottom of the league on goal difference.

ONE TO WATCH:
The FC United player to keep an eye on for this encounter is the new captain Harry Winter. The 29 year old hard tackling box-to-box midfield has re-joined the Reds after 2 seasons at Stockport County and provides great energy and presence to the FC United midfield which Ashton will have to be at their best to counter. Harry Winter is a real journeyman of the conferences, having also played for Trafford, Northwich Victoria, Halifax Town, Hyde FC, Matlock Town, AFC Flyde and Chorley FC. His experience being brought to the midfield and the role of captain will be a driving force for FC United this season.
Special mention given to player/manager Tom Greaves, who is their all-time leading goal scorer with 103 goals. Ashton United fans may be hoping he sticks to the bench on Tuesday night.

LAST TIME WE MET:
The last time the Robins met FC United was back in the Northern Premier League in 2015. By the end of that season, FC United would be promoted to the National League North as champions and the Robins would unfortunately miss out on promotion, losing on penalties to rivals Curzon Ashton in the play offs.
The match ended 3-0 in FC United’s favour, with all goals coming in a disappointing second half collapse. Current player manager Tom Greaves earned himself a brace, scoring in the 70th and 79th minute, with Liam Brownhill sealing the win for the Reds in the 90th minute.
