Confident Robins Coast Past Borough

Report by David Robinson

Ashton completed their home friendlies with a fluent victory over Radcliffe. Right winger Chris Denham put in a couple of crosses from the right wing, the first led to Freakes slicing his effort wide and the second was just too high for centre forward O’Neill.
Hills had a shot from distance held by Phillips before a break by Walker saw Sanasy square the ball to Robinson whose effort was cleared off the line. Logan’s free kick for Ashton then just evaded Kerr as the ball travelled right across the goal. A fine move then saw Ashton open the scoring as Denham found the overlapping Logan whose cross was headed home by O’Neill. Just before the break full back Hanson played in a fine cross which just eluded former United forward Sanasy.
A fine cross by Kerr was headed over by fellow centre back Lynch after the restart and then for Borough White’s free kick forced Philips into a tip over. Freakes then robbed a defender but fired straight at Andrew and substitute Sousa showed some good control before bringing a tumbling save from the visiting keeper.
The advantage was doubled as Mason raced through and as the keeper left his line the ball fell to Rick who lobbed into the empty goal and the final word fell to Sousa whose cross from the left just evaded Kerr but still finished in the corner of the goal for Ashton’s third strike.
Ashton: Philips, Richardson, Pearson, Kerr, Lynch (c), Denham, Freakes, J O’Neill, Logan, Tandy. Subs: Rick, Mason, Beattie, M O’Neill, Cairns, Sousa, Gee, Deegan.
