Must do better

Lacklustre Robins have questions to answer. Report by David Robinson

Ashton suffered their first defeat of the pre-season games as a late winner gave the hosts victory at the NetDec Stadium. The first half was a quiet affair but Albion could have taken the lead on 12 minutes as Adam Mather gave the ball away to Cameron Dalton who cut inside but saw his effort saved by Phillips.

The Ashton keeper could have been embarrassed as a long rang effort from the Witton left winger went drifting wide of goal but 2 minutes before the interval a ball into the centre broke to Dalton who provided a good low finish.

The second period opened with Baguley having a decent low effort pushed away for a corner and after several substitutions, one of the replacements Jamie Matthews came as close as anyone had for the visitors as he cut inside before firing wide of the near post. With 20 minutes left another replacement Rhys Nevins showed good persistence in getting to the by line from where his cutback was forced home by Gary Gee. However the home side were finishing the stronger and a ball into the area saw Wilson’s flick on headed home by Rob Hopley.

Team: Phillips, Coo, Mather, Gorton, Frost, Moses, Crowther, Gee, McMahon, Baguley, Payne. Subs: Nevins, Brownhill, Smith, Matthews, Logan, Wilkins, Halford.
