Penultimate preseason friendly ends all square. Report by David Robinson

The goals were shared after an even encounter finished level at Colne’s XLCR Stadium. The hosts were first to make the running as Joe Connor missed a through ball leaving Ben Wharton a clear run on goal from which the ball broke to Craig who was denied by Phillips.

Gary Gee made an early contender for miss of the season as he sidefooted wide at the far post after Danny Wilkins had squared a long ball to him and Chris Baguley’s corner was then just scrambled away from the far post. Ashton took the lead as Aghayere dropped Connor’s long free kick under challenge from Alex Frost leaving Wilkins to tap home. On the resumption Morrison just had a header from a corner tipped away by Phillips but the return ball into the area appeared to be handled on the line by Frost leaving Matty Beadle to see his low penalty saved – Colne’s 12th missed spot kick from their last 15 according to the local fans.

However the hosts soon found the equaliser their display had earned with 18 mins left as Hoskins’ low cross was converted at the far post by Jake Hargreaves and Ashton missed the chance to grab the winner as a good move saw Ryan Crowther sidefoot Rhys Nevins’ cross wide of goal.

Team: Phillips, Coo, Brownhill, Gorton, Connor, Frost, Smith, Gee, Wilkins, Haining, Baguley, Subs: Nevins, Crowther, Morning, Mason, McMahon.
