Yellows Peg Robins Back

By

Report by David Robinson

Ashton complete their road fixtures for the season by taking a point from higher placed Warrington Town despite dominating much of the proceedings. With Dominic Smalley and Simon Woodford dropping to the bench Stephen Mason and Mark Lees formed the central defensive partnership and it was Mason who blocked an early effort from Scott Bakkor before Luke Pilling fisted over a shot from the same player.
Smart’s back heel then saw Ventre dragging his attempt wide as the hosts made the stronger start before a throw-in saw Matty Chadwick hit the side netting and 4 minutes later Chadwick was held just outside the area and fired the resulting free kick in off the left hand post. McMillan was further troubled by Chadwick’s low bouncing effort just managing to palm the ball away and he then saw another fierce effort from Chadwick blocked out at the near post. With the interval approaching Ryan Crowther forced a corner which was flicked on by Chadwick for Richard Smith to miss his contact at the far post.

After the interval an interception by Josh Stachini allowed Lee Knight to spread the play to Chadwick who fired too high and home full back Josh Askew was then fouled outside the area by Cavell Coo with Dylan Vassalo curling the free kick off target. Chadwick’s run into the area was then stopped by Evan Gumbs with Crowther firing the loose ball over but with 5 minutes left Luke Pilling pursued a ball along the by line which allowed Lewis Codling to put in a cross which fellow sub Michael Bakore headed home.
A quick break then saw Crowther release Chadwick whose cross was side footed wide from 6 yards out by Knight and the Robins could still have grabbed the winner as Dominic Smalley’s effort was cleared from the goal line when scoring looked easier.
Team: Pilling, Coo (Lowe), Maiese (Smalley), Mason, Lees, Roberts, Smith, Stachini (Duke), Chadwick, Knight, Crowther. SNU: Banim, Woodford.
