David Carnell signs for Ashton!

Carnell is a Robin

We are delighted to announce that the club has signed goalkeeper David Carnell for the upcoming 2017/18 Evo-Stik League Northern Premier - Premier Division season!

The ex-FC United of Manchester goalkeeper has put pen to paper and will bring a huge amount of experience to the Ashton United dressing room.

Carnell, who was voted as the Players’ Player of the Year in for the 2014/15 season, is considered as one of the best goalkeepers in the division and will surely strengthen the Robins’ backline.

With Carnell organising the defence, it will be tough for the opposition to break Ashton United down and rival clubs will be wary of the Robins this season.

The 32-year-old shot-stopper is keen to start life as a Robin and will be a crucial figure if the side are to push for promotion.

Carnell is well known as a great shot stopper and brilliant at dealing with crosses into the 18-yard box and has a great clean sheet record.

During his spell at Hyde FC, Carnell was the key figure as they kept an incredible 20 clean sheets during the 2011 – 2012 Blue Square Bet North championship-winning season.

We can’t wait to see more of the same from the keeper in Ashton colours as the new season comes closer!
