The Gaffers Never Let Up!

Jay Gorton speaks to James Burch about the Robins' drive to the top.

“We have the two most potent finishers in the league!” Jay Gorton, Captain.

In the aftermath of Ashton’s fourteenth win of the season, Captain Jay Gorton has praised the teams attacking prowess and the frustration of conceding twice after two previous clean sheets; “It was very frustrating as a defence to concede twice against Workington. Saying that we picked up the win and come the end of the season it could be a crucial victory for us.”

Adding; “Phillo and Ackers let out their frustration in the dressing room after the win and it is refreshing to see that despite a huge victory, our managers still want that extra 10% from us. It really helps us strive for perfection as players and as a team.”

Martin Pilkington and Dale Johnson were upstaged by two of the sides defenders scoring against Workington, however the club captain has claimed watching the side attacking is a joy to watch from the comfort of defence; “At times on Saturday we were unstoppable in attack and it was a joy to sit back and watch the likes of Dale and Martin cut through their defence with relative ease.”

He went on to say; “When it comes to forwards in this division, with the partnership of Pilkington and Johnson, we have the two most potent finishers in the league and when you know you can score two or three in a game it helps the defence too.”

Former Robin Aaron Burns, was at Nantwich Town up to last week before he moved to Conference North side Chorley. Gorton has said he is disappointed not to have had the chance again to come up against a ‘top-class’ forward but wished him all the best at his new club; “I’m sure some would think the defence are happy not to be facing Aaron Burns, but we were relishing it. As a centre back you want to test yourself against the best and Burns is top class, I wish him all the best at Chorley.”
