Chairman's Programme Notes For Wakering Game

By Adam Dennehey

Here are Barkingside's chairman Jimmy Flanaghan's programme notes for Saturday's game against Great Wakering.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi and welcome to Cricklefields for our game against Great Wakering Rovers amd a very warm welcome to our visitors and also todays match officials.

I want to firstly thank all our regular supporters for their support during a very frustrating period of results, we are a work in progress, that's not meant to be patronising, but it is a fact. Michael is working tirelessly to improve things, he is a very dedicated and more than capable person.

Next is the news is that the club are in the process of setting up a Go Fund Me page, following conversations with Andrew at Waltham Forest, who have done a similar page.

As a club we need to get some help for the running costs of the club, a club that has always been financially challenged during its whole 120 years of existance, but who haven't been helped since their ground was sold from beneath them in 2001 and through no fault of anyone's was then priced out of that home by the landlords in 2013.

The facts are the only form of income we have at the moment is through the turnstiles and the burger bar, we have absolutely no sponsorship, we have no bar takings, we have no other form of income. I'm just stating facts, I'm not trying to give a sob story, I'm planning to be Chairman for as long as possible, but the fact is we need everyone's help to try to raise revenue for the club.

We have some terrific volunteers in the Chilvers, the Meyers, Damian, Simon who puts this programme together, John Belsey is a rock and we have an 88 year old lady in Babs who gets two buses to come to our games so that she can raise some funds via her raffle.

I'm indebted to all of the above, like I am to our regular band of followers. That's why I do what I do, I know Michael totally understands that as well.

Like I said I'm not attempting a sob story I'm just stating the facts, the people above and the people that come and watch us are the most important people at this club, a great little club that has a great little reputation as well as plenty of respect in football circles. You have all played your part in making that happen again I am truly grateful.

Many thanks to those of you that donated to the food collection for the homeless. The charity were extremely grateful.

Once again many thanks to those of you that attended todays game.

Kind Regards,

Jimmy
